Hellraiser 2022 Is a Win For the LGBTQIA+ Community

David Bruckner’s Hellraiser stars not only a gay couple as two of the main protagonists and has one of them survive, but a trans woman casts Pinhead. Jamie Clayton, a trans actress, brought a new breath of life to the Hellraiser franchise. And before people start complaining, a female Pinhead is representative of the books and comics.
“Everything about Hellraiser has always been transgressive. Everything, always, from start to finish,” Doug Bradley told Bloody Disgusting when asked what he thinks of the new Pinhead. So even the great Doug Bradley himself has condoned Jamie Clayton’s casting as the new Pinhead.
And Jamie Clayton delivered, giving a new erotic feel to the already genderless sexual being known as Pinhead. Where Doug Bradley’s Pinhead felt imposing and powerful in a masculine way, Jamie Clayton’s gives off a more subtle vibe.
Here is a person who cares not for your petty mortal desires. All she desires is entertainment, and your pain is her pleasure. As you watch her appear and deliver her statements in a chilling soulless voice, you can not help but feel your blood run cold.
Critics Say Hellraiser 2022 Is Washed Down
After its Hulu debut on October 7th, multiple reports from critics have come out stating that the film is washed down and sterilized. Yes, it is not entirely based around S&M, but we still have the classic villain hunting for pleasure. He desires it so much he will do anything needed to achieve his audience with the Cenobites.
Chains, hooks, pins, and pain wrapped in pleasure are still present in this film. So sure, it may not have the pure S&M style, but it still pays homage to the beginnings of Pinhead while adapting it for a new generation.
It instead chooses to explore more of the franchise’s mythos, creating a world that feels tense and filled with horrors beyond our understanding. Be sure to check out Hellraiser on Hulu to enjoy these horrors yourself.
