Note: All of these films have received under a 5 on IMDB, with an average of 2.5 – 3.5.
Clown Doll
IMDB Rating: 3/10
Release Date: March 30, 2020
Description of the Movie: A young woman named Lane (Sarah T. Cohen) purchases a clown doll from an antique store, and her friends and family begin to go missing throughout the movie.
Why I Disliked It: Clown Doll took a potentially good idea and butchered it through the usage of a nonexistent plot, poor acting, janky dialogue, and very disappointing kills. I will give it credit for the doll design, but that is the only thing it has going for it. Overall, it is predictable, boring, and not worth the watch.
Clown (2019)
IMDB: 2.5/10
Release Date: 2019
Description of the Movie: A group of teens fights for their lives when they are trapped in a funhouse and pursued by a killer clown who will not rest until each of them is dead.
Why I Disliked It: Like every other clown horror movie on this list, not only did Clown lack plot, good acting, and proper dialogue, the entire thing felt very thrown together in a mess. Taking place in a funhouse, it could have been an okay movie, but instead aimed for the stars and found itself plummeting into the dirt.
Clownface
IMDB: 2.6/10
Release Date: 2019
Description of the Movie: A killer clown, known only as “Clownface,” terrorizes a small town, leaving bodies in his wake.
Why I Disliked It: The main problems I had with this movie were its lack of character development and any dialogue that did not feel like a fifth-grader wrote it. When it comes to worst clown horror movies, this one is a strong contender for number one.
Clowntergeist
IMDB: 3/10
Release Date: 2017
Description of the Movie: Emma, a college student with a phobia of clowns, must face her fears when a demonic spirit inhabiting the body of a clown begins murdering and terrorizing the residents of her hometown.
Why I Disliked It: Where to even start with this movie? First of all, the plot was nonexistent in this movie, and I am not sure if any of the actors actually knew how to act. It felt janky and difficult to follow along and does not keep your attention. On top of that, the villain was predictable and boring, and it is essentially an hour and a half of wasted time.
Clownery
IMDB: 3.2/10
Release Date: 2020
Description of the Movie: After being traumatized on her birthday by a clown, Emma decides never to celebrate again. When she turns 21, a friend throws a party for her, and the horrors that have been waiting are released again.
Why I Disliked It: Overall it is essentially the same as the rest of the films on this list. While the acting is not super horrendous, it is still subpar, and the plot is not very interesting. It really shows how clown horror just fails nearly every time it is produced by an indie studio.
Clownado
IMDB: 4/10
Release Date: 2019
Description of the Movie: Using tornados, killer clowns release havoc upon a town, and a motley crew, including an Elvis impersonator, a teen runaway, and a stripper, must fight back and defeat them.
Why I Disliked It: While it did receive a 4/10 on IMDB, and it had some alright moments, the dialogue was horrendous, and the plot was hard to follow. They throw you into a random place with no build-up, and it takes 20 minutes just to get a minor idea of what is happening. You might like this film if you like a confusing plot, non-interesting characters, and mediocre effects.
Clown Fear
IMDB: 3.1/10
Release Date: 2020
Description of the Movie: A bride and her bridesmaids are stranded in a town run by clowns and must try to survive as a clown cult tries to murder them.
Why I Disliked It: While I did not hate this one nearly as much as most of the ones on this list, it still has poor acting and mediocre dialogue, it starts weirdly, and the whole plot seems kind of rushed and badly written, but it does have its comedic moments.
Clown Kill
IMDB: 2.4/10
Release Date: 2014
Description of the Movie: A group of office workers locks themselves in the office to focus on work over the weekend, but it goes wrong when a murderous clown breaks in.
Why I Disliked It: Everything, just, absolutely everything. The movie drags on and on for an hour and a half with repeated and seemingly unedited dialogue and a plot that is terribly executed. On top of that, it comes with everything from a horrible representation of sexual harassment, poor acting, and some of the worse effects I have ever seen in a movie.
Clown Motel: Spirits Arise
IMDB: 4.5/10
Release Date: 2019
Description of the Movie: A group of ghost hunters and a bachelorette party meet up at the Clown Motel, where they are haunted and attacked by the spirits of the clowns that once lived there.
Why I Disliked It: Out of all the movies on this list, this one is surprisingly not completely terrible. The beginning is very stupid and has a lot of monotone-sounding dialogue, but as it progresses, it does get slightly better. If you have to choose any of these movies to watch, this one, at the very least, will provide you with some entertainment and even a little comedy. Read our review of this film here!
ClownTown
IMDB: 3.7/10
Release Date: 2016
Description of the Movie: A group of friends gets stranded in an abandoned town, only to find it is not as empty as they thought, as a gang of clown-dressed psychopaths stalks them.
Why I Disliked It: While the acting was slightly better than other films on this list, it was still terrible, and the dialogue felt janky. On top of that, it pulled the whole “car breaks down for no reason” trope, which is honestly overdone and sucks. Factor in characters not noticing the evil clowns right in front of them, and you have a movie that, while it has an okay plot, is still a terrible film.
