My Friend Dahmer is a film adaptation of John Backerf’s graphic novel. Covering the high school years of Jeffrey Dahmer, this movie takes a look at teenage Dahmer. Created by Chris James Thompson in 2012, The Jeffrey Dahmer Files creates scenarios using archival footage and actors to create a picture of Jeffrey Dahmer’s life. If you wanted to see Jeffrey Dahmer’s story in a dramatized factual way, this movie is certain to make your day.

Told from the perspective of a detective working on Dahmer’s Case, one of the lead pathologists, and one of Dahmer’s neighbors, this movie gives viewers an excellent view of Dahmer’s life and crimes. It is a gritting and well-written film that is sure to leave you at the edge of your seat as you learn more and more about the grisly crimes of Jeffrey Dahmer.

3. Dahmer on Dahmer: A Serial Killer Speaks (2017)

Dahmer on Dahmer: A Serial Killer Speaks, which came out in 2017, is another excellent movie choice for Jeffrey Dahmer aficionados everywhere. This film focuses more on factual investigation and interviews than overdramatized renditions. If you prefer more documentary-styled films, then this one will be perfect for you.

For the first time in over two decades, Lionel and Shari Dahmer share their thoughts on their son. Dahmer on Dahmer contains interviews with his family, two of his victims, and his closest confidante. This makes this movie one of the top must-see Jeffrey Dahmer films. If you do not mentally prepare, you will almost certainly be creeped out by the fragmented style of this movie. It gives off a grating feeling, leaping from place to place as you watch Dahmer transition from a weird kid to a murderous adult.

Focusing on his final years and the disturbed mind that existed within him, Jeffrey Dahmer (Jeremy Renner) allows you to see the humanity behind the killer. While Jeffrey Dahmer was a terrible person, committing atrocious acts, he was still human, and we can learn from his mistakes.

5. Raising Jeffrey Dahmer (2006)

Raising Jeffrey Dahmer is fairly unique when it comes to many of the mainstream Jeffrey Dahmer movies. Instead of focusing on Dahmer and his crimes, this film focuses on his relationship with his father, Lionel Dahmer. Even though Jeffrey Dahmer was a creepy and unstable child throughout his childhood, his father still loved him unwaveringly.

While you do not often think of serial killer movies to touch your heartstrings, Raising Jeffrey Dahmer will make you question that. Seeing Lionel’s feeling of betrayal at his son’s depravity, the worsening relationship between them, and then the culmination of Lionel learning his son is a cannibalistic serial killer is sure to touch your heart as it did ours.

6. The Secret Life: Jeffrey Dahmer (1993)

We have saved the best for last on this list of Jeffrey Dahmer movies. The Secret Life: Jeffrey Dahmer was one of the earliest films made about the notorious serial killer. Coming out in 1993, it was created by David R. Bowen, and starring Carl Crew as Jeffrey Dahmer. It was released two years after Jeffrey Dahmer’s arrest and only a year before his death. Talk about creepy.

This movie lacks the special effects and dramatization often seen in other Jeffrey Dahmer movies. Instead, it focuses entirely on the facts and seeks to act as a biography of Jeffrey Dahmer’s crimes. The film covers all 14 years of Jeffrey Dahmer’s murderous career, a narrative of his life. Since it went straight from production to DVD, it is considered the most gruesome and disturbing of all Dahmer films.

If you plan on watching this film, you should ensure you have mentally prepared for this film. It will not be easy to watch, though serial killer films rarely are. Biographical crime films are even harder to watch, as it makes the viewer face the truth of what they are watching. Use your discretion when viewing this film or any of the films on this list.
