So I finally decided to give the 2018 Halloween film a watch-through, and oh boy. I’ve already seen many of the original and both of the Rob Zombie films.
While the Rob Zombie films were not the greatest, they did a much better job telling the original story of the Heydouga discount than this film.

He’s Pure Evil!
Starting off, the film had the regular slow pacing of a Halloween film. You get into the movie’s groove, and then Michael manages to escape the prison bus.
He finds someone wearing the jumpsuit he is always pictured with, and one way or another; he finds his mask.
In this film, it is by violently murdering two podcast hosts who came to visit the prison and showed the mask to him.
While there is nothing wrong with that in particular, it still seemed like a weird way to begin the film, but hey, Blumhouse made it, and I don’t like complaining about their movies.
It wasn’t till the latter half of the movie that I started to dislike the route the film was taking.
Michael makes his way through Haddonfield, murdering nearly everyone he gets his hands on. They seemed to lean heavily on the whole “pure evil” idea in this film.
Yeah, Michael is evil, but he isn’t just some senseless murderer. He has a singular target and a one-track mind. Nothing is going to stop him from achieving that goal.
In this film, though, it felt more like he just wanted to kill anyone he could to reach Laurie Strode, whether he had to or not.
Dr. Loomis is Evil?
Another big problem with this film was how they did Dr. Loomis’ character. He no longer works with Michael and has already retired in this movie.
However, when Michael escapes, Loomis returns to help hunt him down. When Michael is found, and the sheriff runs him over, you would think Loomis would be like, good!
Wrong. Instead, he stabs the sheriff, killing him, and then puts Michael in the cruiser’s backseat with Laurie’s granddaughter.
Like, what the hell? Loomis has dedicated his life to studying and learning about Michael, and then he has a personality shift.
They try to explain this by saying that, oh, Loomis just wants to see how Michael will behave in an uncontrolled environment.
Which, sure, but like, it doesn’t really fit how Loomis has ever been, and it just kinda ruins that for me.
General Thoughts
Besides the Dr. Loomis parts and how they handled the overall Michael pacing, I enjoyed the film.
Blumhouse Productions makes great movies, even when I don’t like everything about the film itself.
