Continuing the month of watching and reviewing new horror movies, we are covering Jeepers Creepers 2.

Positive Things
Starting off, I enjoyed this one better than the first movie. That is mostly because it provided a better look at the Jeepers Creepers monster’s lore.
We learn it returns every 23 years to feed, which, similar to many other monsters’ lore, gives the reasoning behind the beast.
I love to have a reason behind everything, so getting a lore-heavy movie made it a lot better, in my opinion.
Another piece of terrifying lore we learn in this movie is that the monster can assimilate new body parts into itself.
When its head is blown away, it takes a victim’s head and replaces its destroyed head with the new one.
I never thought we’d get some sick body horror in the second Jeepers Creepers, but oh boy, did it give some great scenes.
It may not be Hellraiser level, but it should still be on your list if you are interested in movies that incorporate body horror.
Besides the body horror, the second movie’s plot was fairly good, though nothing special compared to other films.
Negative Things
Now, while I enjoyed Jeepers Creepers 2, I was not a huge fan of some aspects of the film.
Firstly, much of the lore about the monster is provided by a random vision one of the kids being hunted receives.
It feels far too random, and while it gave us the information we needed, it was a poor way of doing so.
On top of that, the monster got way creepier and pervy than in the last film. The director was a complete creep, but he didn’t need to make the monster stare at a high school boy and sexually lick the window.
Oh, that reminds me of another terrible thing about this movie. It had a lot of homophobic aspects and comments between the high school boys.
Yes, it was the early 2000s, but homophobia doesn’t need to be any film. Luckily it does not take a huge role, but it should still be noted that it appears.
Since we are on the topic of homophobic characters, the characters themselves were almost completely one-dimensional.
None of them were given any depth, and we don’t form any type of connection with them whatsoever.
Horror movies don’t necessarily need amazing characters, but this movie takes the worst of the worst and puts it together in a mess.
Conclusion
Overall, Jeepers Creepers was an enjoyable movie, but it lacks character depth, includes homophobia, and leans into the pervy monster.
I’d give it a solid 5 out of 10, but only because it was a lore-heavy movie, and I love lore and body horror.
