Reviewing The True Ingredients: A SpongeBob Horror Game

Recently I got a desire to play some horror games, and I remembered that The True Ingredients was a game that existed.

I had seen it on a Markiplier 3 Horror Games video and thought it could make for a fun little experience.

It is a very short game, only taking 5 – 10 minutes to complete, though it can take slightly longer if you get stuck on some things like I did.

So, if you struggle at a few points in the game, check out my complete gameplay article for The True Ingredients here!

Now, without further ado, here is my review of The True Ingredients, a Spongebob Horror game.

Quick Walkthrough

In The True Ingredients, you play a nameless character who wants to purchase a Human Patty, but unfortunately, they do not have any patties in the kitchen.

So, you go down into the cursed warehouse, find a patty, and take it back to the cashier. No idea why you have to do all the work for them, but hey, might as well get in your steps for the day.

Once you have the patty in hand, you get the joy of cooking it for yourself in the kitchen because, obviously, there is no cook, and Spongebob is nowhere to be found.

Slap that patty on the grill, place it on a bun with nothing else, and then go back into the main area to sit down and eat your delicious patty… except it tastes like your grandmother’s toenails. Why do you know what those taste like? I have no idea, but apparently, you do.

Could this be grandma?

You can’t afford the patty, get thrown into the warehouse, escape with Plankton, and then have to flee as buff Spongebob chases you down. You throw yourself down a shaft at the end and become new patties instead of facing Spongebob.

Game Review

While this game is supposed to be a horror game, there is very little that is scary outside of two jumpscares while Mr. Krabs takes up your screen, screams, and lights flash.

Alongside the several jumpscares, when Spongebob is chasing you, your blood is pumping, and your heart is beating fast because the combination of alarms blaring, chase music, and the sounds of Spongebob getting close instills a sort of primal fear in you.

Even though the game is not very scary, it plays well, and everything is fleshed out. Controls feel smooth when you play the game; you only have WASD with E to interact and SPACE to move through dialogue.

There are no moments that I had an issue playing the game, and no bugs seemed apparent though I’m sure you could find some if you wanted to.

However, I have nothing to complain about regarding the game because while it is incredibly short, it does what it is supposed to do.

If you want a quick horror game that may get a scream out of you if you are surprised by the jump scares, then definitely check out The True Ingredients.
