There Will be a New Legacies Spin-Off

The latest of a long legacy of Vampire Diaries content, Legacies, was abruptly canceled by CW on June 16, 2022, leaving long-term viewers wondering what was next.

Airing for a straight eight seasons, Legacies was one of CW’s most popular projects. But all good things must come to an end. In 2022, the CW reworked its schedule, shutting down six other shows besides Legacies.

With that abrupt ending of the show came a lot of disappointment, but Julia Plec, Vampire Diaries boss, revealed what is coming next in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

When asked about how the Legacies cancellation had affected her and her group, she had the following to say. “What I felt in the moment was concern for the hundreds and hundreds of people who’d just lost their jobs across three of my shows.”

“We did 331 episodes of television and a lot of people that worked on season 1 of Vampire Diaries worked on season 4 of Legacies. There was such a beautiful family that we were able to build in Atlanta across these three shows. To think that that’s just gone now is sad.”

Fans can take heart, though, that there will be more spin-offs in the future as Plec and her team are not ready to leave behind the land of Mystic Falls. “There will be another one. We’re a little sad, we’re going to take a beat, but yeah, there’s more ideas. There’s more to do.”

We may not know what Plec has in store for us, but new adventures are coming, and Mystic Falls will continue to live anew.
