The first documentary you can watch about Ed Gein is called Ed Gein: The Butcher of Plainfield and is more of a horror crime film than a true documentary.

Released in 2007, it was received poorly as the acting was mediocre, the dialogue felt forced, and overall it is just not a very good movie in most people’s eyes.

However, it showcases Ed Gein and is one of the few movies based around his actual crimes, so if that is what you are interested in, give this movie a watch.

It can be found on Tubi, so at least the only thing you lose if you do not enjoy this movie is a bit of your time.

Ed Gein: The Ghoul/Ghost of Plainfield

The second documentary that exists on Ed Gein, not on YouTube, is Ed Gein: The Ghoul/Ghost of Plainfield and is a twenty-minute documentary created by Michelle Palmer.

Where do you find this short documentary? It is on the 2003 Blue-Ray/DVD version of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre as a special feature.

It has archival footage of Ed Gein and contains interviews from people like Harold Schechter, John K. Russell, and David Skal.

While nothing new, it makes for a good watch and gives you a nice background on Ed Gein if you are unfamiliar with him and his crimes.
